Daya would flinch badly or give out a soft whimper from the increasing pain, her chest kept trying to heave air in with no avail.

(Lol, you’re good. I was busy these last few days, and I was also a bit stuck)

The woman doctor hurried up with her checks, becoming alarmed by Daya’s worsening condition. Then, she went to work on getting Daya back to breathing normal and stopping any internal bleeding.

Malcolm watched warily, tapping his fingers on his arms in an uncharacteristic show of nervousness.

Daya eventually fell asleep, the pain making her body give in to sleep.

The woman continued to work on her, figuring out what was wrong and doing everything she could to help Daya. The doctor was well aware what awaited her if she failed. Malcolm, who still watched with a detached glare, was not known for his mercy.

Daya’s treatment was eventually finished, and the exhausted woman had woken once more. It was night now, and she looked for Malcolm worriedly “mal!?” she yelped out.

Malcolm had found himself a chair while he waited, brooding the entire time. When Daya woke and called to him, he immediately rose and approached her.

“I’m here,”he said gently, grabbing Daya’s hand and cradling it.

The doctor eyed him in surprise. Malcolm quickly shot her a warning glare, then turned back to Daya.

Daya winced a bit but soon shot it away. She gave Malcolm a soft smile. “What is wrong? You look like you're at a funeral..” she asked softly

Malcolm snorted.

“If I ever decided to go to a funeral, which will likely never fucking happen since I don’t give a fuck, I’d probably be laughing. But, that’s irrelevant. I’m…”he paused momentarily, sighing as he tried to calm his whirling mind.

“I’m not used to worrying about anyone,”he finally said, his voice quiet enough that only Daya could hear it.

Daya sighed and pulled Malcolm closer, kissing his forehead “don't worry your mind too much, I'll be okay..” she was trying to calm him

Malcolm braced himself as she pulled him closer, caught off guard by the kiss. He gazed at her, unsure what to do or how to reply.

Though, he heard a small gasp nearby and he immediately pulled out his gun and aimed it at the woman doctor. She froze.

“Get the fuck out,”he hissed.

She hesitated, until he aimed directly at her head. With a small yelp, she rushed out, shutting the door behind her. Malcolm took a deep breath afterward, then put his gun up, turning back to Daya.

“I don’t want those words of yours to be the last ones I hear. It’s honestly strange as fuck to say that, but it’s true,”he finally said.

“Forst.. don’t be so damn mean. “ she said softly. “Second, the won’t be, because I care to much to leave you alone”

Malcolm snorted,”Daya, I am, by nature, a fucking mean bastard. You’re just going to have to get used to that.”

He paused before saying anything else, his eyes troubled.

“Caring doesn’t always mean surviving,”he said, his voice unusually quiet.

“Caring makes my heart force my body to live,” she said “do you wanna lay here instead of breaking your back in that chair?” she offered

“Caring nearly killed me,”he huffed.

“Hm, I can just sit next to you,”Malcolm mentioned, doing just that.

Daya shrugged and sat up as well “ well I won't let it happen again,” she chuckled softly as she lifted up one of her hands. A little bot crawled onto the tip of her finger and she smiled “hi dollan..”

“You can try, I suppose,”Malcolm replied with a snort.

At the sight of the bot, his souring expression softened considerably. He chuckled when Daya greeted the bot.

“I have a little mechanical spider I made a few years ago. Though, I’ve been having trouble with repairing him. Nonetheless, I love the little guy,”Malcolm commented as he watched the newly named bot, Dollan, move around. Malcolm had always had a soft spot for machines.

“He’s been repaired, just ask him yourself,” she said, lowering her hand and letting the bot wonder “I found Dolan the night I arrived, I woke up late in the night and figured since I couldn’t sleep I’d repair him. It was only a small problem that could wreak so much mayhem on his little body”

Malcolm chuckled, shaking his head.

“Yes, I was having trouble repairing this one as well, but this little guy is not the one I’m talking about. For one, I make a lot of spidery little bots. Two, the bot I’m talking about, which I’ve been thinking of calling Midas, is bigger, and is also in the basement. You’ve never been in the basement because there’s only one way in, and it’s in my room, hidden and locked,”Malcolm stated.

He couldn’t help a small smile though as he stared at Dollan. Malcolm had been trying to find the problem with the little bot for a few months now, and he was glad that Daya had been able to fix him.

Daya leaned gently on Malcolm, tucking her head in the crook of his neck “thank you for saving me, both times. “ she whispered softly

Malcolm froze momentarily, not sure what to do. Affection was not one of his strong points, and he barely remembered what it was like for him before the explosion. Though, after a moment, he tentatively wrapped an arm around her in a strange attempt at a hug.

“I… I have done too much already to let you die now,”Malcolm said quietly.

Daya nodded gently, a soft smile and blush showing on her face as Malcolm put his arm around her.

Malcolm didn’t move from his spot, particularly when Daya put her hand on his. This was completely new to him, and he didn’t know what to do. In a way, it scared him, and he hadn’t been scared by anything in years.
