Name: Jochi Menken
Species: Fox Spirit
Age: 322 (appears to be in his early twenties)
Gender/Pronouns/Sexuality: Male, he/him, gay
Powers/Abilities: As a fox spirit, Jochi possesses the ability to change effortlessly between fox and human form. His human form, however, retains fox aspects that are difficult to hide. While his kind is revered as incredibly powerful beings upon a certain age, Jochi himself is only three hundred and has just three tails to his name. His magic, while stronger than any younger fox spirit, is weak in comparison to the legendary celestial fox spirits with all nine tails. That said, Jochi has absolutely no difficulty summoning foxfire, inducing mild dream magic, or casting convincing illusions fitting for his age.
Like all fox spirits, the source of Jochi's powers is a magic pearl called a hoshi-no-tama, or tama, which is held in his mouth. If Jochi were to be separated from his tama for too long, he would grow weak and die.
Appearance: His fox form is a cross fox, a startlingly beautiful mix of red, black, and silver fur. The three tails are the only indicator that he's no regular fox, but Jochi can increase the size of his form if the situation calls for it. Currently, his largest form is about the side of a horse.
As a human—or relative, at least—Jochi is tall with a graceful demeanor. His hair is dark and wavy, a sharp contrast to his pale face and, well, fox-like features. From atop his head sit two long black ears with tufts of orange on the inside. From below his wavy mop of hair are two intelligent green eyes with a splash of gold cutting through the left—courtesy of sectoral heterochromia (the only hetero thing about him lmao).
Biography: Though fox spirits are prided on their wisdom and cunning, even they are not exempt from the foolery of their younger years. And there was no fool like Jochi, who made the worst mistake a fox spirit could possibly make—he lost his tama. Rather, he let it be stolen from him in a gamble the young fox was sure he could win. Needless to say, he did not.
A ghoul by the name of Jusirex was the one to best him in his gamble and take Jochi's tama for his own. In an effort to get it back, Jochi begged and pleaded and swore he would do anything. Jusirex, or Rex, demanded Jochi become his servant and protector in return, and desperate, Jochi agreed. That was almost three hundred years before the present, and since then things have changed rapidly.
The world, which had once looked down on inferior creatures, had progressed into a society that was accepted and open-minded towards all. At least, the ones that fit their utopian image… Discrimination, especially towards those like ghouls, vampires, and demons, still ran rampant out of the fear that "those folk" would harm the rest of the population. Jochi soon found himself lumped into the discriminated crowd because of his association with Rex, earning himself a reputation and being labeled a malevolent fox spirit much to his despair.
Rex disappeared often during those times, and Jochi never asked why. He only followed the ghoul when the man arbitrarily announced that they'd be deserting their initial gang and joining a far larger one—one that would later become the head of the mafia in Thayes.
Time blurred once again after that. Jochi was only able to see things with clarity once again in recent years, when a woman was captured and brought to be interrogated. Jochi was tasked with babysitting the woman's child after the boy had been unintentionally caught up in the confrontation with his mother, who Jochi later learned had stolen from one of the higher-ups. The boy was young, three at most, and Jochi instantly fell in love.
The mother, of course, did not survive.
The boy, a banshee who Jochi learned was named Nox, wailed and wailed without ever knowing the reason for it. Though the reaction was to be expected, Jochi could feel his heart break with every cry. The rest is history—albeit recent.
Jochi approached Rex once again and asked that Nox be placed permanently under his care, and the ghoul eventually relented with the promise that he would still be the fox's main priority. It was the first time Jochi had ever lied to Rex.
Personality:
Other: Absolutely fucking terrified of dogs.
Theme song would probably be 'Other Side of Paradise' by Glass Animals
Name: Nox Menken
Species: Banshee
Age: Fourteen
Gender/Pronouns/Sexuality: Male, he/him, still discovering
Powers/Abilities: Nox has a sixth sense when it comes to death. He can tell without a shadow of a doubt when someone is about to die, and the knowledge fills him with despair so potent that the tears start spilling down his face before he can even fully register the thought. The knowledge almost always arrives too late to save the person, and Nox is left to wail in the absence of life until someone can remove him from the scene of death.
The only defensive capability his powers are capable of is a piercing scream that can easily burst eardrums. His powers will naturally grow stronger the older he gets, but for now, that's the extent.
Appearance: Nox looks like any other human or humanoid creature, save for the bone-white hair. He hasn't quite hit his final growth spurts and likely won't for a few years more. For the time being, he's stuck in a bit of an awkward phase, with lanky limbs, braces and all.
His hair, though shockingly bright, is constantly complemented by beaded sections or strands of glitter woven in.
Biography:
Personality: As a banshee, Nox serves as an omen of death. As one could imagine, it doesn't make him very popular at school. Despite it all, however, Nox powers through with exuberance and a sunshiney personality—ironic for one named after the night.
Other: Theme song is 'Gangsta' by Will Jay
I'm leaving Jochi's personality blank for now—I'll probably stick to revealing it through actual writing!
