"That's what I thought. Coming right up." She chuckled, turning to make the drink with rehearsed ease.
"That's what I thought. Coming right up." She chuckled, turning to make the drink with rehearsed ease.
Kayin scowled. “What’s that supposed to mean?” He gave Xachia a bland look. “You weren’t very surprised that I’m wanted by the king,” she commented.
She raised an amused eyebrow at Kai. "Do you see how many posters are up there? You're not the first person who's been wanted that's wandered in here and you certainly won't be the last."
Kayin took a sip of the cocktail and spun it around on the counter. "I suppose that's true," is all she said, eating another piece of orange.
She set the drink on the counter with an amused smile. "This one's on me. Looks like you need it after that revelation."
“I don’t need anything,” Kayin said sharply, but took the cocktail and drank it all quickly. Their head swam and they blinked, listing to the side.
"Mhm, sure you don't." Xachia chuckled as she watched Kai down the drink in one. She came to Kai's side and took them into her arms, carrying them to an empty table like they were light as a feather.
(I've never worked with multiple pronouns before so sorry if I'm using them wrong!)
(you’re doing good!)
“Don’tttouchh mee,” Kayin said angrily, his words slipping together. “Iii’mm finnee.”
"Ah shush, you can barely stand on your own two feet. I'm just setting you down so you don't knock yourself out on the floor." She rolled her eyes with a smile, setting Kai down at the table. "There, better?"
“No, ittisnt. Disrespecctful.” He waved Xachia away impatiently. “I’ll bee jusss fine withhhout you.”
"Whatever you say. I'll see you when you wake up." She laughed, patting Kai's head before heading back to the bar to continue working.
“That was rrude,” Kayin said, swatting at her hand. “I didn’t askkk for youur heellp.”
"You didn't have to sweetheart~" She sang with a laugh. Her hearing was extremely sharp, allowing her to hear Kai perfectly even though he was across the room.
“Do NOTT call me sweethearrt.” Kayin rested their head on the cool table.
"Would you prefer my dear? I use that one a lot too." She would continue this entertaining conversation until Kai fell asleep. She didn't mind.
"Nooooooooooooooo. You're getting on my nerrrrves." Kayin closed his eyes and drifted into sleep, eyelashed fluttering.
Xachia rolled her eyes with a smile, shaking her head before continuing her work. As long as Kai was safe, she'd let them sleep.
Kayin didn’t dream, which was a welcome surprise. They slept for a few hours then woke suddenly, her eyes gritty and his mouth dry.
Xachia was still at the bar, serving a much smaller group of customers considering how late it now was. She perked up when she saw Kai move. "Morning sunshine."
“Ugh. You are obnoxious.” Kayin tilted his head to the side to look at her. “I really don’t like you.”
"I know, it keeps me up at night." She shrugged with a bright smile. "I tried to warn you. But what do I know about the establishment that I've been working in since I learned to speak."
“Whatever,” Kayin said crossly. He checked that all his knives were in their place, then looked at Xachia. “Do you have coffee?”
"We sure do." She placed a steaming cup of coffee on the counter. "I figured you'd ask so I've been keeping a cup nice and hot for when you woke up."
Kayin stood up, wobbling a little and stretched. “Cream and sugar,” she mumbled and sat at the bar.
Xachia dropped in a couple lumps of sugar and a splash of milk and added a spoon to stir before handing it to Kai. "There you are my hungover friend."
