@Becfromthedead group

I've been here for a pretty long time as well. Going on 3 years. Joined in February of 2018, if I remember correctly.
I've been here for a lot of fiascos lol. I just most of the time keep to myself unless I see reason to get involved.

@Moxie group

I have been on here for quite some time. I joined in January of 2018 but I didn't start being active on the forums until a few months later.

also i suppose i might be considered the same, but idk what really qualifies you as one. imo being a "veteran" or whatever shouldnt really be a thing, theres been some problems that have arisen cause of a sort of "classism" based on how long you've been here but the people i listed are simply those that ive come across consistently ever since i got here. also pretty much all of them im friends with lmao

i'm… honoured??? idek y i just
feel like i'm suddenly important to someone lmao

i'm sorry yall i just frequently forget that people care about me. a lot.

Okay, an ask for the veteran users here, who were the worst roleplayers here and how can we learn from their mistakes?

Not gonna name names here, but personally, it really helps to have good grammar and post multiple sentences. Basically, keep the story going is my advice.
Another big thing is consistency, make sure your characters stay, well, in-character!

@ElderGod-kirky group

don't know if I qualify as a veteran, but

  • good, fleshed out and detailed characters. if given a template, fill it out as much as possible. if you can't make it decently filled out with multiple sentences and descriptors, then that character isn't good. pick another. give them a unique personality that is consistent and dialogue to match. backstories are also important, but sometimes you just don't know the full story, and that's okay. just make sure it makes sense and stays consistent. and an important thing to know is that OP are loathed here. checks and balances, man. keep an eye on abilities and powers. people have weaknesses, tragic flaws, and just things they're shit at. hold them back to a degree
  • multiple sentences that drive the story. inner monologue, description with at least some detail. natural dialogue that continues the conversation unless it's meant to come to a natural stop. make your characters move around, even if it's just hand movements, tilting their head, or blinking in surprise. make it interesting and engaging enough for your partner(s) to want to respond right away and the stalkers to keep reading. g r a m m a r. don't follow my current example and only type in lowercase, that's just my Circe Talk stolen from my Croc. have proper grammar, spelling, the whole shibang. we're writers. we're kinda expected to be grammar natzis
  • don't be an ass and control other people's characters unless explicitly allowed. follow rules, it's not that hard. just generally be respectful, even if your character is the king of douchebags

Usually, the problems I've had with bad RPers in the past are:

  • Character always trying to be the center of attention, also kind of some brand of Mary Sue, bonus points if they're like "everybody hates me"
  • Controlling other people's characters without permission, including indirect control (ie: repeatedly trying to get their attention in a certain way to make the other RPer do what you want. Idk how to explain it.)
  • Bad grammar, constantly. We all mess up sometimes. And even people who make little mistakes consistently don't bother me. When it starts to become harder to read than it's worth, it's difficult to have a good time.
  • People being like "pay attention to my character!" when they're making no effort to join in the action themselves. Especially when everyone else is intentionally leaving a scene open to new characters
  • Not so much one liners, but things that have no substance to respond to.
  • Not listening to the rules of the RP creator. She's long gone, but way back when, I was in a zombie RP and someone tried to make a character who was a "vegetarian zombie", but the creator (rightfully) said no, and she got all pissy about it.

Big agree on all of these, I've had a person kill my character just because "well my character is a dick so" and that's probably the most angry I've ever gotten when roleplaying. I've also seen people also reply to large chunks of internal dialogue or text with "[character] hummed a familiar tune/sang a familiar song" in order to get attention as opposed to actually being active and trying to start up a conversation or something.

@Fraust

I'm usually not a big fan of group roleplays because they always, without fail, have problems
Some people who aren't all that active decide they want to join, and if the group happened to be smart and have a posting order, then they're always waiting on that one person.
In addition to that, the more active people tend to get out more replies, obviously, and other people get left behind
Group roleplays are also a magnet for newbies or 'worse' roleplayers because a lot of group roleplays are 'Everyone is welcome!' or whatever and people will join because no one is willing to do a one on one with them
I just… am wary of group roleplays. Not a fan of them, personally. They only really work if everyone is reasonably active (especially if they're all about equally active), a decent writer/roleplayer, and there's not a huge amount of people in them (this mostly just helps with the previous two things, tbh)
